Obituary for Jason Daniel Greenstein

Jason Daniel Greenstein
Jason Daniel Greenstein passed away on August 10, 2016 the only way he knew how -- on his own terms after a long battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Jason was born May 15, 1967 in Boulder, Colorado. He was a warrior who unequivocally took on every challenge he encountered -- whether it was on the basketball court, football field, baseball field, or trying experimental cancer treatments. Jason was a fierce competitor who battled to the end, beating his cancer through innovative experimental treatment, but finally succumbing to the effects of graft vs. host disease resulting from a transplant.

His innate athletic prowess was fostered by his father, Joel, who coached him in both little league and pony league baseball where he stood out in regional all-star tournaments. A star athlete at Boulder High School, Jason led the school’s basketball team to many state tournaments and played collegiately at Occidental College, where he earned his degree in Political Science. Jason was a curious individual who loved learning new things earning a MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management and a law degree from the University of Denver Law School.

A free spirit who was never tethered to one place for long, Jason lived in Japan, Africa, Mexico, and Las Vegas where he pursued his entrepreneurial endeavors. Jason was mostly interested in experiencing different cultures and helping make life better in the places where he lived. He had a passion for languages and spoke Japanese, German and Spanish. He even learned a little bit of Russian.

Jason was innovative and idea driven. He considered himself an entrepreneur -- and he was. He started many businesses over the years and was never afraid to try out a new idea or concept. Most recently he owned an import business that sold gifts to casinos throughout the US.

Jason is survived by his mother Catherine Greenstein of Boulder, CO; his partner Beth Schwartz of Las Vegas, NV; brother Guy Greenstein of Louisville, CO; sisters Yvette Sally (spouse Ron), Jackie Prendergast (spouse Paul), and Natalie Buckmelter (spouse Vince) all of Denver, CO; and 15 nieces and nephews whom he adored. Jason was preceded in death by his father Joel Greenstein.

Services will be at Boulder Valley Christian Church Tuesday, August 16 at 11 a.m. with reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to North Boulder Little League, nbll.com.
