Obituary for Iona K. Allton

Iona Allton passed away peacefully on September 9, 2020. She was born on July 10, 1923 in Ada Minnesota to Edward and Ida Attig. She was the middle child of five and grew up on the farm doing farm chores and playing in the woods with her siblings. She was a good student and graduated from Lanark High School in Washington IL. as Salutatorian. She then lived in Peoria IL. working and attending Brown's Business College at night to better her career. She eventually became an executive secretary at Equitible Life Insurance, during which time she met my father at a YMCA social club for single adults. They married in October of 1953 and moved to Boulder Colorado ten years later.

They raised two daughters and Iona returned to work as an administrative assistant for a home for developmentally disabled adults called Carmel house located in Boulder's University Hill Area. She grew to love the residents and staff at Carmel house and worked there until her retirement in 1990. In retirement she enjoyed some domestic travel, walking dogs, reading, and volunteer work for her church. She is survived by Robert Allton, her husband of 67 years, Lisa Carter of Littleton CO, Debra Allton(John)of Cottonwood AZ and her sister Ruth Presley(Joe)of Metamora IL.
