Arthur Michel Strauss was born in Brooklyn, New York to Louis and Pauline Strauss. When he was born, milk had cream on top and was delivered in glass jars by a horse-drawn wagon. Refrigerators were actually ice boxes, and the ice was also delivered by horse-drawn wagons. "Winnie-the-Pooh" was first published in 1926. Airplanes were made of mostly wood and canvas. Movies were still silent, and Nickelodeons were the theatre of choice. Marilyn Monroe, Hugh Hefner, and Britain's Queen Elizabeth II were also born in 1926.
Arthur's journey in life includes many different adventures. From Yeshiva of Bensonhurst to the Brooklyn High School for Specialty Trades on Flatbush Avenue, to New York University, Arthur set the tone for the remainder of his life where he would embrace all that life had to offer. Many people talk about living a rich and adventurous life, but Arthur was not a talker, he was a doer.
His travels included Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Puerto Rico, Canada, Haiti, Mexico, Australia, Philippines, Bali, Hong Kong, Singapore, and throughout the United States.
His many careers included electrical engineer, building contractor, Auctioneer, Restaurant owner, Real Estate Broker, and Fine art collector.
In his 20’s he fell in love with living a health-conscious lifestyle, which contributed to his long life. He loved skiing, lifting weights, hiking, camping, polar bear swims in ice cold water, and cycled wherever and whenever his wheels could touch the ground.
Arthur had a vivid imagination; loved to sing, dance, yodel, tell stories, and make people laugh and smile. If he had nothing to do, he would create a song or limerick out of thin air or find happiness in the simplest of things. He saw the beauty in a rain drop and a ladybug, loved horses, dogs, cats, and all animals.
Arthur was unapologetically himself, and had an eternally youthful, Peter Pan view of life. He was a caring person who showed no fear when it came to saying hello to people, sharing a thought, joke, or prayer. He was always the first to laugh, the first to pray, and the first to forgive.
He was a genuinely loving person who overcame many childhood obstacles. He never thought about the end of his life. He always had something in his mind and imagination to look forward to. He left a legacy of happiness and joy everywhere he went. Anyone who met him was be blessed by his energy and enthusiasm, and words of wisdom.
In the early 1960’s Arthur authored a children’s story about three frogs titled "Hibble, Pibble, and Zibble," which he read to his kids regularly as they were growing up. The book is now published and available on Amazon.com worldwide. This story is a true testament to his love and creativity.
Arthur was laid to rest in Lone Tree Cemetery, in Telluride, Colorado. His brother, Edmund Strauss, and sister Charlotte Strauss-Kaufman pre-deceased him. He is survived by His daughters Juliette, Amanda, and Natasha, and sons David and Jordan.
